Linda Whitaker, a dedicated CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) volunteer, has been serving Goochland/Powhatan CASA tirelessly since June 2022. During this time, she has positively impacted the lives of five children, offering guidance and support during their most challenging moments.

Linda’s CASA journey is filled with memories, but one particular instance stands out. A child she supported in the 5th grade had worked on an ambitious class project featuring a gazebo and flower garden. After the project's completion, the child eagerly shared her accomplishment with Linda, who was so impressed that she captured the moment in a photo and sent it to the child along with a heartfelt card. The child’s excitement upon receiving the thoughtful gesture and her joy in sharing it with her friends underscored the profound bond CASA volunteers can create with the children they serve.

Before retirement, Linda was the Vice President of Administration and Human Resources at a nonprofit organization, a role that undoubtedly sharpened her ability to advocate for others. Her passion for volunteering with CASA stems from her belief in its importance. As Linda aptly puts it, “CASA volunteers play a pivotal role in being the voice of children to the judge and fact-finders for everyone involved in the child’s life.”

Linda encourages anyone considering becoming a CASA volunteer to embrace this opportunity. Her advice highlights the impact they can make, stating, “You will make a difference in a child’s life.” She emphasizes the value of listening to children’s fears, feelings, and concerns and reflecting these in the reports that serve as a vital tool in shaping decisions for the children’s welfare.

One of Linda’s most meaningful experiences as a CASA volunteer came while working with three siblings. The youngest boy’s sheer joy and excitement during her visits to his school left a lasting impression, while the eldest child’s touching survey response—“Kids are lucky to have you in their lives”—highlighted the strong and impactful relationships Linda has built through her commitment.

Linda Whitaker’s journey as a CASA volunteer exemplifies compassion, commitment, and the ability to leave a lasting positive mark on young lives. She is an inspiration to anyone looking to advocate for children and their futures.

Beyond her role as an Advocate, Linda enjoys spending her spare time surrounded by family and friends, gardening, knitting, reading, and tackling jigsaw puzzles. She also cherishes playing cornhole and badminton with her children and grandchildren, adding a touch of fun to her life.
